Giethoorn is located in the north of the Netherlands. It is easiest to reach by car, but there is also a train station in the nearby city of Steenwijk, which allows travelers to reach Giethoorn from across the country with public transport. You can also reach Giethoorn from all directions by train. The easiest way is to travel to Steenwijk station. There you can travel the rest of the 7 km to Giethoorn by bus or taxi.
Taxis and buses to Giethoorn stop at the train station in Steenwijk. Line number 70 goes to Zwolle and stops at Giethoorn and takes between 15 and 20 minutes. The bus runs at least every hour. Keep in mind that after 6:30 pm there are usually no more buses going to Giethoorn. Since 2018, there has also been a special bus line, the Giethoorn Express, with number 270.
